Howdy Bookworms!
I have been having such great fun with my library’s audio book selection lately. I’ve been dabbling in a lot of backlist books and it has been a blast. Sarah Addison Allen never fails to enchant me, the woman is made of moonbeams and fairy dust. Needless to say, I did a little happy dance when The Girl Who Chased the Moon
When Emily Benedict arrives in Mullaby, North Carolina, she has no idea what to expect. Her recently deceased mother told her absolutely nothing about her hometown, let alone that Emily had a living grandfather (who happens to be both a giant and a BBQ enthusiast.) Mullaby is an odd town full of quirky characters and odd happenings. Julia Winterson is another reluctant Mullaby resident, having returned to town after her father’s death in order to run his restaurant. She bakes some amazing cakes, and nobody is more appreciative of that particular talent than dreamboat Sawyer. Unfortunately IT’S COMPLICATED. Emily and Julia strike up an unlikely friendship and help each other navigate the strangeness and wonder of Mullaby. Family secrets and history and magic and love and moonlight and CAKE collide in this scrumptious novel, and the result is utterly charming.
Well, it’s official. I need to read ALL THE THINGS Sarah Addison Allen has ever written. These books just make me so darn happy. I can’t help but smile, sigh, and daydream a little every time I read one. If you need a break from reality that will warm your heart and make you desperately want to taste Hummingbird Cake (cream cheese frosting? I am so in!) pick up The Girl Who Chased the Moon and enjoy!

Her books are such comfort reads for me. I’ve enjoyed every single one. Glad you liked this one so much! I have it on my shelf but I think I’ve been waiting until I *need* it to read it… and then forget it’s on my shelf. I should probably just go for it!

Lost in Literature 108
I’ve only read one from her, (Waking Kate), and I was a bit disappointed because it ended so quickly. I thought I had downloaded a full sized novel but it was just about 30 pgs. It turned out to be like an e-short, an excerpt from another book, or something that took place on the side that you weren’t aware of when you were reading the other book. Anyway, it piqued my interest.
Turns out, she’s a NC native, graduated from the same university as Wiley Cash. I’ve read and reviewed both of his books, A Land More Kind than Home and This Dark Road to Mercy.
I wonder if Wiley and Sarah are buds.:)

And now, after some morning internet time, I see I’ve stated the obvious and am a little embarrassed that I didn’t realize she was was such a significant NC author. Must read more of her, STAT. My book club needs a SAA pick.

I think Waking Kate was a companion to Lost Lake, which was delightful, but definitely a turnoff if you didn’t realize it was just a short story.

I’ve been re-reading a number of the J.D. Robb “in Death” series over the last week as a bit of comfort reading. Which may seem like a strange choice, but they are fairly straightforward police procedurals with familiar and likeable characters, plus there is the grand love story of Eve and Roarke at the centre.

Sarah Addison Allen is so amazing! The woman can’t write fast enough to suit me. And I just love how she will recommend other authors to you on her page. Through her I’ve discovered another new favorite, Menna Van Praag. They both share that magical quality that’s not over the top.
