Bookish Accoutrements: Top Ten Tuesday

April 15, 2014 Top Ten Tuesday 42

Howdy Bookworms,

It’s Tuesday again, and with that comes the opportunity to make a list… With a group. I’m a JOINER, see? (Well. A digital joiner. Maybe kind of. Whatever.) This week the ladies of The Broke and the Bookish have challenged the book blogosphere to make a list of bookish things we’d like to own… You know, that aren’t books. This is bound to get ridiculous. Are you ready?!

1. A personal library with sliding ladder. I don’t care that it’s impractical to live in a dwelling so large as to have a dedicated library. I don’t care that I read most of my books digitally. Maybe if I had my own LIBRARY, I wouldn’t need the digital storage space. And what’s a library without a sliding ladder?!

2. A Castle. Did I not mention that I wanted my library to be in a castle? Because I do. Castles are obviously the most bookish dwelling. (In place of a moat, though, I’ll install a lazy river for me to float around whilst reading my books. Nice right?)

3. This Alice in Wonderland necklace from Modcloth. Because Alice is my homegirl.

4. Cute Penguin Bookends. Why the heck not?

5. A new booklight. This isn’t imperative at the moment, thanks to my GLORIOUS Kindle Paperwhite, but when I want to read a physical book in bed, I still use a book light. The one I have now is just okay… Maybe I’m spoiled by the back lighting I’m used to, but my current external booklight doesn’t seem to illuminate as well as I’d like.

6. A Bookish Scarf. I like wearing scarves, they’re a fun little accessory. I’d like a bookish one. I’ve seen one that contains the text of Pride and Prejudice that I covet. COVET.

7. Bookish Drinkware. What better to use to sip your coffee while reading than a bookish mug? I mean, really. And, you know, if you wanted to be super awesome, you could order one from my Zazzle store.

I should probably stop there. I mean, I already told you I want a castle complete with library, sliding ladders, and a lazy river. I think that’s about all the crazy the internet has time for today.
What about you, bookworms? Anything bookish you’ve had your eye on lately?

  1. Joules (from Pocketful of Joules)

Butterbeer. When I read Harry Potter I was DYING to try some butterbeer. Then, I finally had some (a lot) when we went to Harry Potter World a couple years ago. I know that there are recipes for it online, but I really want them to bottle butterbeer and sell it in my grocery store so I can keep my fridge stocked.

I totally want a dedicated library. My aunt used to have one before they “downsized”. I was jealous. Although let’s face it, my living room is pretty much a library that happens to have a TV and a PlayStation in it.

Last year I bought those cute Owl bookends that I LOVE. And I totally have a bookish mug. It’s huge and says “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me – C S Lewis”.

  3. Jayne

A bookshelf with a sliding ladder is my dream! I actually have a really awesome bookshelf and am researching ladders. They’re really expensive 🙁 .

I hate the idea that those ladders are so expensive! I guess I am just going to continue living in the land of make believe with my lazy river castle…

  4. Megan M.

Castle with a library is the dream! Although I saw a really cute reading loft on Design Mom the other day that I also really, really want. I’d really like some kind of case or cover for my Kindle so I feel more comfortable taking it with me to the doctor’s office or whatever.

      • Megan M.

It’s a Kindle Touch… but you don’t have to do that. It’s just one of those things that I never get around to buying. 😉

        • Words For Worms

Alas, I do not have a touch thus I do not have a spare cover. You should splurge though! I carry my kindle in my purse everywhere I go. You never know when there will be a long line at the grocery store. It’s happened.

  5. Darlene @ Lost in Literature

Ok, first of all, somebody needs to show this list to your husband.
I know of NO reason what-so-ever that you should not already have that necklace and those book ends…birthday? Anniversary? Christmas? Just because??

And second, dishes are my thing! There are some lovely white book shaped dishes out there,( I can’t find the link right now). I’ll post them to you when I find them. There is a little Crepe shop in my town that uses them. They are adorable but a little pricey.

I’m still looking for some book ends that will blow me a way. I don’t know what I want, I just want to find some that I just have to have.

Hahahahaha, I really can’t blame it on the husband. I never think of these sorts of things without prompting, I don’t know that I’ve ever given him any kind of shopping or idea list. I totally know the book dishes you’re talking about and they are FABULOUS!

  6. Lauren @ Books, Tea & Me

Why am I not surprised you want penguin bookends? Haha, love it.
You have a great list here — I also want a bookish scarf, but with Anne of Green Gables quotes.
Gosh, I’ve missed you! I need to start reading blogs again, I hate being so busy!

  7. Tiffany

Seriously, I have wanted a library with the sliding ladder since I was a little kid and Belle had one in the tiny library in her town. Then there’s the beast’s library. I pretty much love that movie for the bookish related awesomeness more than anything else!

    • Words For Worms

Haha thank you! I haven’t had occasion to use it in a while and I like it too! I’m glad I’m not alone in my covetousness. I feel very sinful.

  8. Jennine G.

Yes, I recently posted about fun bookish things at a new store. I picked out what I liked for the post 🙂 I have that awesome blog header art and name of my blog on a mug actually, but my daughter uses it so much it’s never clean when I need it.

  9. Jenny @ Reading the End

I’d love a sliding library ladder. I’m sure I’d break it though! I’d want to do the Belle swinging thing every time I went into the room where the sliding ladder was, and I feel even a fairly sturdy sliding ladder would not stand up to it.

  10. Angie @Angela's Anxious Life

I don’t drink coffee. I know… crazy right???? So I really don’t have a lot of coffee cups. But on the top ten lists this week I saw soooo many amazing coffee cups. I sometimes see on Pinterest cute ways to display coffee cups too!!!

  11. Rory

Those bookends were obviously meant for you. I thought of you the other day when I saw an article (maybe on Jezebel) about knitting sweaters for penguins.

    • Words For Worms

I love it that people think of me when they see penguins :). My facebook feed always blows up when something penguin related goes viral and I’m just giggle with the glee that the penguins and I have infiltrated so many people’s consciousness. Muahahahahaha!

Talk to me, Bookworms!
