I Want to Go To There: Top Ten Tuesday

G’day Bookworms!

It’s Tuesday again and today I’ve got an especially fun list to treat you with. The ladies of The Broke and the Bookish have challenged us to list places we’d like to visit (fictional or otherwise) because books got us utterly hooked on the locales. Pack your bags, Bookworms, we’re going on an adventure! (My photoshop skills suuuuuuuck. But you’re welcome.)

TTT travel

1. Hogwarts from The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling- located somewhere in Scotland (more on this later), the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry is where I feel I belong. I’d be a Ravenclaw and spend my time solving riddles and chatting up the Grey Lady. Pass the pumpkin juice, would you?

katiechang

I’ve got an owl, y’all!

2. Elmwood Springs, MO from Can’t Wait to Get to HeavenΒ (and others) by Fannie Flagg- Ooooh Fannie Flagg! She created the sweetest small town in the history of EVER in Elmwood Springs, Missouri. It’s practically Stars Hollow, only, you know, south.

3. Neverland from Peter and Wendy by JM Barrie (review)- Oh I’d go to Neverland alright. And I’d join the dang pirates because Peter Pan is actually a complete jerk. Wendy stays home and does housekeeping and goes on approximately ZERO adventures. Ugh.

KatieHook

Arrrrrr!

4. Mary Poppins’ chalk painting from Mary Poppins by PL Travers (review)- The movie version of this scene is significantly more whimsical, but I’d accept the book version gladly as well. A jolly holiday indeed!

katiepoppins

Four guesses as to why this is my favorite scene in the movie.

5. Wonderland from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll- I have but one goal in mind. I want to attend a tea party with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. I have every intention of avoiding any and all royalty.

katiealice

A very merry un-birthday to me!

6. Oz from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L Baum- So there’s a lot of upheaval and chaos and craziness, but I wouldn’t mind a jaunty trip down the Yellow Brick Road.

katiegale

There’s no place like home.

7. Scotland- I want to go to Scotland and it’s all Diana Gabaldon’s fault! It’s the only non-fictional locale on my list, but ooooh I want to visit so badly! On a short study abroad to London in college, I tasted Irn Bru and didn’t hate it. AND, because I’m a nutcase I’ve been re-listening to the Outlander books on audio, so my inner monologue currently sports a Scottish brogue. I would like to see all the things and frolic through the heather. Frolicking rules. (Alright so maybe it’s not ALL Diana Gabaldon’s fault… I was in a production of Brigadoon in high school, too. My travel dreams are swathed in tartan plaid.)

katiefraser

It’s cool. Hubs and I have an arrangement. If I fall back in time and meet a super hot Scotsman, he’s free to pursue the Hollywood starlet of his choosing.

Talk to me, Bookworms! Where have you wanted to travel, thanks to a book?Β

OH MY GOODNESS, I want to go into the MARY Poppins painting, too! My favorite scene has always been Dick Van Dyke dancing with the penguins. When he pulls the crotch of his pants down to his ankles but the waistband stays in place? SO GREAT. I have always wanted to do that. Haha!

  2. Sarah Says Read

LOL it took me a minute to notice your face in all those pictures!! You are a riot.

And girrrrrrl, Hogwarts and Scotland!! And I wouldn’t mind Oz either… except I automatically thought of the Oz in Wicked, and that was NOT a happy Oz.

    • Words For Worms

Yeah, Oz wasn’t even super happy in the original, but really. If all I have to do is click my super cute heels together to get home, I think it’s all good.

  3. Anne @ Lovely Literature

Haha, all your photos. I particularly like shot with Jamie. Who wouldn’t want that? And I’ve been watching Outlander and want to visit Scotland too. If only Jamie was real and could be our tour guide. πŸ™‚

  4. Leah @ Books Speak Volumes

Omg, Irn Bru is the WEIRDEST. It tastes like bubble gum, but if you say that to a Scottish person, they’re like “what are you talking about, that’s crazy.”

The chalk drawing in Mary Poppins! So good. I, of course, am also dying to go to Hogwarts.

  5. Jancee

I had SUCH a crush on Jamie when I first read the Outlander books. So between him and Hogwarts, Scotland sounds like the best place to be!

  6. Joules (from Pocketful of Joules)

Have I ever told you that I’ve actually BEEN to Scotland. New Years Eve 1999… my friend and I got into a kissing contest to see who could kiss more Scottish people. πŸ˜‰

I’d go to Hogwarts… duh. And is Stars Hollow an option?

    • Words For Worms

Sadly, Stars Hollow is not an option because it’s from a TV show, not a book. Not that I haven’t given exceptions to Gilmore Girls on my lists before… So, who won the Scottish make out contest? It was you, wasn’t it, you saucy minx?

  7. ThatAshGirl

I’ve been to Scotland twice and have friends in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I totally had a little Outlander moment and sniffed a tear at Culloden. I left with a profound appreciation of Whisky. Just don’t try to keep up with the Scots when it comes to drinking. You will fail.

    • Words For Worms

Oh man, I think I’d fail trying to keep up with ANYONE drinking these days. I had a respectable tolerance in college, but these days if I go past two drinks I’ll have a hangover. Booo hangovers.

      • ThatAshGirl

Yeah more than 2 drinks and I’m not happy in the morning. And did anyone notice that now hangovers are like a 2 day affair? I remember being able to drink, get like no sleep and then go to class the next morning, or to work on a weekend. NO problem. Now I lie on my floor and wish for death while Jasper walks all over me thinking I’m on the floor so we can play.

  8. Trish

DYING. You’re lucky that that little one’s room is ALL the way across the house otherwise I would have woken her from naptime with my laughing. Post Post Ever. The last is my favorite.

  9. Hobbie DeHoy

I love visiting New York and London (although it’s been a while for both) because I can’t stop thinking about Dorothy Parker in New York and Sherlock Holmes in London. I’m happy to *finally* hear from someone else who wants to be a Ravenclaw! I want to visit Oxford, England because of Dorothy Sayers’ detective story Gaudy Night.

  10. Brenda W

Ooh, def. the Shire! To live in Bilbo’s house is a dream of mine πŸ™‚ i’d also love to stay at the Weasley’s house for awhile, but i would have to have the magic powers to go along with it.
