I’ve been blown away by the response to my giveaway! Thank you for all the new followers and exposure. I realize I bribed you to promote me, but I really appreciate it. This weekend I made a special trip to my hometown to procure a book for this giveaway. Well, that, and to celebrate my family’s birthdays. Seriously, my mom, dad, and sister all have their birthdays in January. However, while I was in town, I hunted through the mom collection in search of books.

Eventually, I found not one, but TWO sets of doubles in this crazy stack of craziness.

Tracy Chevalier’s The Virgin Blue
Heather will be receiving a copy of The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier for two reasons. First, I’ve actually read this book (unlike Fall of Giants) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Second, Fall of Giants is a hardcover (my mom has TWO hardcover copies… seriously?!) and The Virgin Blue is a paperback, and hence, less expensive to ship. This is me, being austere.
Thank you to all you bookworms who entered this contest! I seriously couldn’t get enough of of the opinions on coleslaw. I really think it was perhaps the most important conversation on the subject ever to have taken place on the internet. YOU made that happen. You are all kinds of awesome.

Right now I am reading Illusion by Frank Peretti, (enjoying it), and I need to read Killing Lincoln for my book club. Our next meeting is coming up and I should get on it.

That’s the one on the Kennedy Assassination right? Let me know how it is. I finished Mr.Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore on the weekend. LOVED IT. Am working on fluffy teen fiction right now….the Becca Fitzpatrick Hush, Hush series. I know, I know. Teen fiction is my weakness.

I just finished reading Bitterblue by Kristen Cashore. Very cool book, and far more enjoyable and engaging than I was expecting. I would definitely recommend it if you like YA fantasy 🙂

I’m reading The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery. I’m only about halfway through but it is really enjoyable! I’ve been quoting it to my BFF a lot because it has that old-fashioned charm. I’ve never read of Anne of Green Gables, though. I felt I had to confess that.

Don’t feel bad! I only read Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea this year! It’s all terribly charming. Makes me want to don a petticoat just so I can climb a tree in it and be scolded.

I just finished Gone Girl last night. It took me awhile to get into it, but then I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way to late to finish it.
I have 11-22-63 on my Kindle, I need to read it. I just keep reading lighter things instead. That was my problem with Gone Girl too. I read the entire Beautiful Creatures series last week, instead of Gone Girl.

Gone Girl starts a little slow, but once it gets going, it’s tough to put down. I feel like I need to read something light… Or at the very least short. I don’t know how I’m going to meet my 100 book goal if I keep picking out huge bricks of books!

Congratulations to Heather! I want to know what the mystery penguin item is. At the moment I’m finishing HP and the Philosopher’s Stone and will then be embarking on Anthem. Not so sure how that will be. It’s dystopian and short so it can’t be that bad. Right?

I loved King’s 11-22-63! People have all these misconceptions of what Stephen King’s books are like. Mostly….they are just ordinary people in weird/supernatural/scary situations. His last few books leaning heavily on the character part and not so much the scary situation part. Anyway, glad to have found a great blog about books! More things for me to geek out on!
I’m currently reading Roger Ebert’s Life Itself. A little dry, but very interesting!

I’ve been avoiding King for years because I was scared of the movies. I’ll admit, I choose my King carefully, but it’s really good! I loved The Stand SO MUCH. I dig time travel anyway, so I’m really liking 11-22-63 so far. Geeking out with my fellow bookworms is my faaaavorite! Welcome, Somer!

I also recommend King’s The Green Mile, The Eyes of the Dragon, and Lisey’s Story. Lisey’s Story is a touch scary, but it’s a great read for anyone who loves reading/writing.

Loved 11-22-63, but I’m a King fan from way back. My new favorite is Dennis Lehane. He’s a master at blending history with an actual can’t-put-it-down story (hmm, that sounds a little like King’s 11-22-63). I just finished Live by Night which takes place in Boston and Florida during the Prohibition years and I loved, loved, loved it.
