Howdy Howdy, Bookworms!
I’ve been on a bit of a sci/fi kick lately, haven’t I? I hope you’re not sick of it yet, because a few weeks ago I saw that Ray Bradbury’s classic The Martian Chronicles
In fairness to Ray Bradbury, he wrote The Martian Chronicles
Of course, as usual, I’ve digressed. Bradbury had some very cool and very creepy ideas of how alien life would react to earthly invaders. The book is actually a collection of short stories, so it’s difficult for me to discuss it without spoiling any one of them. I will say that NOBODY likes chicken pox, telepathy is kind of freaky, and people can be awful to each other regardless of their planetary address.
The Martian Chronicles is a good, entertaining read, particularly if you’re in a Mars mood. Your snarky inner armchair scientist will get a chuckle out of it, too!
Tell me something, Bookworms. If colonizing another planet were a legit possibility, do you think you’d ever consider making the big move? (Can you even IMAGINE what your mother would say?! LOL)

Despite all the scientific inaccuracies this is still one of my all time favourite sci-fi novels. But mostly because the way the short stories intertwine is pretty awesome 🙂
(It also helps that right before I read this book, I read A Princess of Mars *cringes*)

It’s been a looooong time since I read this book. I went through a sci fi phase when I was younger (if you can call about 10 years a “phase”). I haven’t read much sci fi since then.

I usually can’t get excited about sci-fi. It’s just not my thing. :/ My husband made me watch Interstellar with him a few weeks ago, and I have to say, I am not excited about having to go anywhere on a spaceship. It looks too hardcore for my Dramamine to handle.

I’ve read Fahrenheit 451 and a bunch of Bradbury’s short stories, but nothing else yet. Which is a shame, because I’ve loved everything of his so far! I’ll have to get to this soon. This past weekend one of my colleagues was recommending I read Dandelion Wine.

I’m biased but I love Ray and everything he does. I would NEVER colonize somewhere unless earth was unlivable. I’m too nervous of a flier for space travel I think!

Oh, I would definitely not be on the colony ship. I don’t have any useful skills and I have no pioneer spirit whatsoever. I’d be fascinated to hear reports back from it, but I’d rather just stay at home, personally.

I used to think that I wouldn’t enjoy science fiction until I read H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. I loved it! I’m adding this one to my TBR; I loved Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes is already on my TBR. May enter into my own science fiction kick!
