It’s GIVEAWAY DAY for Armchair BEA!

May 29, 2014 Giveaways 118

Howdy Bookworms!

Today is my FAVORITE day in the Armchair BEA schedule because it’s the day of FREE STUFF! Wahoo! To join in the celebration, I’m offering a $25 in books from Book Depository to one lucky entrant! Book Depository is pretty sweet because they ship internationally (really, any place that Book Depository serves. Which basically excludes Antarctica, but the penguins are cool with it, we’ve talked.) I wanted to leave it open for the winner to choose his or her own books, because choice is fun. Rafflecopter entry is below, go forth and be lucky!

UPDATE: Originally I had this set up as a gift card to Amazon, then when the whole Hachette hullabaloo happened, I switched it to a Book Depository giveaway because a lot of people were upset and I didn’t think anybody would WANT an Amazon card. Of course, I forgot to change my auto tweet. For shame! So, for the record, whoever wins can pick to have their $25 from Amazon OR The Book Depository. My conscience is ambivalent, so let yours be your guide.

  1. Jan

Rosie? My middle name is Laura and for a long time as a kid I made people call me that because I hated first name – Jan!

  2. Tanya

Ack. Elizabeth Jane. So my full name is 30 letter long. That is about 10 letter too many for me.

  3. Riv @ Bookish Realm

In the culture where I come from, we don’t have middle names. Some people give their kids two first names, but they are in no way officially or unofficially middle names. I would like to have a middle name, though!

  4. Athira

Thanks for this great giveaway! I like that the pengiuns are cool about the no-Book Depository delivery. 🙂

  5. Heather @ Capricious Reader

    EGADS! You are generous! 😛

I don’t typical just hand out my middle name to just any one, basically because I HATE IT, so I will lie and say that it is Tahiti. Isn’t that lovely? lol

    • Words For Worms

Is it Eunice? Mildred? Oh my stars, I’m going to spend all day coming up with the granny-est names trying to figure it out! My BFF is named Heather, middle name Alene. My sister is Heather Leigh. I feel like everyone else born in the 70s-80s is a Marie, Lynn, or Ann. But you? You’re clearly Prudence. Except nobody would be ashamed of Prudence, because of The Beatles. Hmmm…

  6. Brittny

Free books are the best kind! My middle name is Ann- it’s a family thing. It was also apparently a very popular middle name in ’87-’89, as several of my friends also were name Ann(e) name. 🙂

    Brittny

  7. Heather

Free books are the best kind of books!

Also – my middle name is Ann. It’s totally a family thing, my mom, sister, and I all have the same middle name.

  8. kristinshafel

My middle name is after my grandmother, Frances. One of these days though once I finally get around to legally changing my last name to my husband’s, I’ll replace it with my maiden name, like my mother did. Already basically go by that on Facebook etc. already, so that’s practically the real deal, right?? 😉

  9. Tiffany

My middle name is Rose too! My dad actually hates my first name (he thinks it sounds like s stuck up cheerleader and I agree, but with 4 older sisters loving the name, who was he to argue) so he only calls me by my middle name.

  10. Loralie

Yay free books! Those are the best giveaways! Also my middle name is Jane, but everyone who meets me thinks that my name is Laura Lee with Lee as my middle name so that is always interesting.

  11. TJ

No middle name for me. But if I had been a boy, my middle name would have been Patrick. Thanks for the giveaway.

  12. Isi

    I don’t have middle name!
I mean, I have a name and two surnames (one for my father and one for my mother):
    Isabel Gutiérrez Orejas.
Here in Spain is like that: you don’t lose your surnames when you get married, so your parents have different surnames and you get the first from both of them (first your father’s one and then your mother’s).

  13. Wesley at Library Educated

My middle name is Kay, it was supposed to be Willow but then my parents realized that that was a name of a bar on the street we lived on so they changed it so no one would think I was named after a dive bar 🙂

  14. Leila @ Readers' Oasis

Nice giveaway! I’ver never used the Book Depository… this seems to be quite popular with all you book bloggers, so guess I should check it out. My middle name… very original, wait for it… Ann.

  15. Emily

I recently got married so my maiden name is now my middle name, but my original was Knap. As in go take a nap! I can’t tell you how many times I heard that clever line growing up. Luckily, once I got past the stage of life where my best friends’ brothers were jerks and made fun of it, I really embraced it and was sad to see it go. Plus it’s my grandmother’s maiden name and I love the family connection. One of my children (unborn obviously) will have it for a middle name and I’ll teach them how to deal with jerky boys 🙂

  16. Karsyn @ KaKiJoKoJa

So, I bet I’m the only one who is going to give you a story, with my middle name. Legally, my middle name is Suzanne. However, I hate my name, so much so that I’ve moved away from my legal name (Brooke) and am using the name that I will someday (when I have money and a car to go do it) legally change to ~ Karsyn. But, I haven’t come up with a new middle name yet. I have ideas, but nothing sounds good with it. So yep, that’s my story. 🙂 Thanks for the chance!

  17. Suz Reads

Mine is Lynne. Thanks for this amazing giveaway – I would love to win!

  18. Judith

Thanks for the giveaway (check out mine too!).

My middle name… well, I’m really called Judith-Ann as one name, but no one ever calls me that (I’m always Judith). so I guess Ann is sort of my middle name.

  19. Charleen

Well, you’ve probably figured this out by now, but mine is Lynette.

(Also, I changed the auto-tweet to $25 “in books”… but no promises I’ll remember tomorrow.)

    • Words For Worms

Thanks! It doesn’t really matter if you remember. It’s true enough that you can win $25 from Amazon. It’s also true you can win it from Book Depository. I like to think this adds a mysterious quality to things. It’s like a digital fog machine.

  20. VeronikaDream

I don’t have a middle name. We don’t use them in my country.

  21. Aleksandra N

I don’t have a middle name. But, then again, my name is already long enough (10 letters), so I’m happy with that 😀 Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. steven weber

my middle name is Mark.. after my dad.. and my dad’s middle is Steven after me.

  23. Girl

I have a normal name, first middle last. I don’t use my middle name though, since it is my mom’s name, and she is super abusive and all around mean. When she is no longer around I am getting it changed.

  24. Jennine G.

My middle name is Marie, probably the most common besides Ann (which I my middle daughter’s middle name)!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. Courtney @ Courtney Reads A Lot

My middle name is Leigh. 😀 And when I decided to give away a B&N gift card, I wasn’t even thinking of that whole debacle. Honestly, Amazon or Book Depository, doesn’t matter to me. Thanks for the giveaway!

  26. Ashfa

I use my middle name rather than my first name. 🙂 First name is Fathima and middle name is Ashfa.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  27. Hazel Lee

My middle name is Hazel! My first name is Elizabeth and I’ve been going by Betty, but I wanted to use Hazel for my blog. =) I have no idea what’s going on with the Hatchett thing, but I definitely prefer TBD right now because of the free shipping internationally. Thanks for hosting the giveaway! Happy Armchair BEA, Katie Rose! Love your name!

  28. Michelle B

Mine is Rene – my mom and I share the same middle name and if I were to have a girl, I would also give her our middle name. I like this tradition and prefer to give a unique first name! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  29. Allie L

I don’t have a middle name but if I could pick one it would be Charlotte 🙂

  30. ForstRose

Middle names in our family are given from relative’s names – I got my mother’s first name for a middle name. Louise, it really isn’t too exciting.

As for the Hachette – Amazon issue I’m kind of ambivalent on it myself because of the lead up from prior events related to pricing. TBD or Amazon works for me although Kindle books are always nice to get since they don’t take up shelf space.

  31. Michelle Willms

I love your question! My middle name is South. When I got married, I legally took my maiden name as my middle name, dropped my much hated and never ever used first name and moved my middle name to my first name. Did that make any sense at all? 🙂

  32. NeriS

Yay for contests! My middle name is Milda, after my grandmother. I think it’s also the name of a Lithuanian goddess 🙂

    I love seeing everyone’s names!

  33. Deb

Hey! My middle name is Ann…no E, which was a shock to me in adulthood. For years I thought I had an E like Anne of Green Gables did. NOPE. Birth Certificate says Ann. Sigh, lol!

  34. emma

I don’t actually have a middle name but I’m sort of glad because who knows what name my mum would have come up with haha!

  35. Anj Garcia

I don’t have a middle name. Thank you for the awesome giveaway! 😀

  36. Rachel

I desperately want one, but I was never given a middle name. Something long and fancy would be nice.

  37. Ashley Z

Middle name is Nicole. Thought I was so cool as a kid because my initials were ANT. That’s awesome, right? right?
