Armchair BEA 2014 Introductions!!!

May 26, 2014 Blogging 56

Hello my lovely Bookworms,

It’s everybody’s favorite time of year! Well, everybody who’s a crazy bibliophile, at least. The fabulous Book Expo America is going on in NYC this week. For those of us who aren’t able to attend the big show, the amazing crew at Armchair BEA puts on a digital event so we can celebrate ANYWAY! Yaaaay!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?

Hey y’all! I’m Katie! I’ve been blogging about a year and a half now. I started it up because… Well. I read a lot and I was bored one day. I feel like I should have a better reason than that, but it’s the truth! I’m in Central Illnois, ye olde Land of Lincoln. You know, the part of Illinois that isn’t Chicago? Yes, there is a state south of I-80. Swearsies.

Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. — so we can connect more online.

In one sentence, eh? Words for Worms is an irreverent book blog for the masses. That was my tagline when I had a tagline, and it’s apt, I think. A little something for everyone and moderately inappropriate. It’s good times. But I’m not just here, I’m EVERYWHERE! I’m on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, G+, and I occasionally hang out with a partridge in a pear tree. So yeah, connect with me! It’s good fun.

Well. My "newphew" thinks I'm good fun. And he likes penguins. So yeah.

Well. My “newphew” thinks I’m good fun. And he likes penguins. So yeah.

Spread the love by naming your favorite blogs/bloggers (doesn’t necessarily have to be book blogs/bloggers).

Ooooh this is tough! There’s so darn many! Ready??? Non book bloggers I love include Filing Jointly…Finally, Pocketful of Joules, Quirky Chrissy, It’s a Dome Life, That Ash Girl, and Psychobabble… You know, the cool kids. Book nerds I dig include but are not limited to The Relentless Reader, Sarah Says Read, The Well-Read Redhead, Love at First Book, River City Reading, Fourth Street Review, Estella’s Revenge, Capricious Reader, Life Between Books, A Lovely Bookshelf on the Wall, The Steadfast Reader. A whole lot of amazing in the book blogosphere, believe you me!

Share your favorite book or reading related quote.

Yay! I actually have one! I even made it PRETTY for you. I’m endlessly amused by Picmonkey.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 books would you bring? Why? What 3 non-book items would you bring? Why?

That is a horribly unfair question, but I think I’m going to have to go for length on this one. Let’s go with Les Misérables, The Stand, and War and Peace (because that’s probably the only way I’d ever read War and Peace .) Non book items on a desert island… I’d need something sharp, like a big bowie knife… Also, a bunch of fresh water, because hydration is important. Finally, I’d bring a genie. Because y’all know I don’t want to hang out on that damn island longer than I have to.

Anything else you want to know? Ask me ANYTHING. I might answer. I probably will. I have so little shame…

So many people are naming War and Peace as their desert island read. I guess page count might have something to do with it. I mean, you don’t want to take a short novel with you when you may be stuck forever.

    • Words For Worms

LMAO! A big bowl of knives would be pretty useful, because you’d have a bunch of knives AND a bowl. I really should have thought that through…

  2. Heather

    Thank God you got bored.

I agree with Les Mis and The Stand, but War and Peace? Is that so you’ll get some sleep? Still, it’s probably better than taking Moby Dick. Boredom AND worries about whales on a deserted island? Not my cuppa.

  3. Quirky Chrissy

    For the record…

You started your blog like 3 days after I asked you to write on my blog…and you wanted more.

    I’m not saying…just saying.

    • Quirky Chrissy

And upon further investigation…it was the next day.

So come on yo. Give credit where credit is due.

By the way, you’re welcome. 🙂

      • Words For Worms

LOL, oh Christine, how could I forget? In fairness, I certainly was bored, but you offered me the cure for said boredom. 🙂 Credit, credit, credit.

  4. Monika @ Lovely Bookshelf

I’m thinking I’d choose Proust’s In Search of Lost Time as my castaway read. It’s so long, I’d probably only need the one book, ha! Love that you said you’d bring a genie along! 🙂

  5. Megan

I’m already reconsidering my plan to take only one chunkster to the desert island. I probably need to think this over a little more before it actually happens to me. ;-P I couldn’t even touch the “your favorite bloggers” question. There are so many I love that I always feel like I’m leaving one of the best out!

    • Words For Worms

Oh man, I know! Even looking at it I’m like “oooooh I forgot so and so!” I’ll just have to trust they’ll forgive my faulty memory.

  6. Athira

I like that you are taking War and Peace to the stranded island! I should too, because I may not read it otherwise!

  7. Laurie C

Love the photo! I think a couple of the book bloggers you mentioned may be new to me, and so I will have to check them out!

  8. ThatAshGirl

OMG don’t bring War and Peace. DON”T DO IT!!!
I would totally bring Outlander, Gone with the Wind and Wuthering Heights. Books I could just read agian, and again and again.

  9. Tanya @ Mom's Small Victories

I love your sense of humor and the way you write. I agree that’d be the only way I’d read War and Peace too. We enjoy many of the same book blogs but thanks for the non-book blogger recommendations, I will have to pay them a visit too. Hope you stop by for a visit and link up posts with my Small Victories Sunday linky that’s open all week. I love recommending good books and blogs to my readers!

  10. Judith

Ah, The Stand is a great choice for that island. I think for me the island would also be the most likely place to read War and Peace.

    Happy ABEA!

    • Words For Worms

War and Peace is one of those books so daunting you’d need to be stranded on an island… Or maybe a long prison sentence to get through?

    • Words For Worms

The genie would be so great! I might just ask the genie to give me teleportation powers so I could go back to the island to read. With pizza. Whenever I wanted. Sweet, right?

  11. Catherine

The Stand for a desert island?! I would never have thought of it but that is the best answer ever. I could read that book again and again.

  12. Becca Lostinbooks

It doesn’t matter that you were just bored one day, it’s great to have you blogging along with us! I couldn’t name fave bloggers or I would’ve been there until Sunday! It’s too hard to choose!

  13. Jennifer @ The Relentless Reader

War & Peace. That’s a good idea. I’m with you, I don’t know that I’d ever get to that chunky chunkster otherwise.

Hey lady, thanks for the shout out!

That picture of you on your way to see the penguins is my fave. 😀

    BEA2016!

    • Words For Worms

It certainly didn’t hurt anything that it was HOT outside but the penguin house had air conditioning. Yet another reason penguins are the best :).

  14. Trish

A genie!!! Why didn’t I think of that?! Hub and I got into a quite heated debate today about what we would bring to the deserted island (after I assured him that I also had to choose three NON book things). Sigh.

After today’s posts I’m wondering if everyone is hanging out on G+ without me. Likely with Mindy Kaling, too.

  15. April @ The Steadfast Reader

ALL THIS HATING ON WAR AND PEACE. 😀 I <3 Tolstoy, but the 19th century French writers should have perished in one of the duels they were so fond of writing of.

Seriously, I'm going to tell you the secret to reading War and Peace. It's to skip all the 'War' – For serial, none of it is pertinent to the narrative and since (let's face it) as Americans we don't really care about history (especially the Napoleonic Wars, seriously, I don't even care a little) you're not missing anything.

Okay, a little more rambly than I meant. #sodealwithit 🙂

    • Words For Worms

Dude. One of these days I’m going to do it. And skip all the war. And then I’m going to pretend I read THE WHOLE THING. For bragging rights.

  16. Annabel Smith

I think War and Peace is a good call. For me it would be one of those I’d probably never get around to otherwise. Something by Dickens, something Russian and maybe Proust.

  17. Charleen

The TV show Stargate Atlantis is about an expedition that goes to another galaxy, and they’re not sure if or when they’ll be able to come home. One of the characters brings along War and Peace because, as he says, “I might be here for a while, so I figured why not bring along a book that takes a while to read?”

  18. Joules (from Pocketful of Joules)

Awww, I’m one of your favorites. =)

I’d probably take some happy, shiny books with me to a desert island because the last thing I’d need it to read something scary and be all creeped out in the dark. Maybe something silly and sexy by Jennifer Cruise would hit the mark.

I’ve been watching a lot of Naked and Afraid (WHY do they never make shoes first?!) and I’m totally prepared for the desert island question: knife/machete, fire starter, bowl. BOOM.

Talk to me, Bookworms!
