Top Ten Tuesday: New Year’s Resolution Edition

January 7, 2014 Top Ten Tuesday 47

Howdy Bookworms,

I know it’s been 2014 for nearly a week now, but it’s not too late for a few resolutions, is it? The ladies at The Broke and the Bookish certainly don’t think so. Let’s talk about plans, shall we?

TTTNYR2

1. I committed to read 100 books again this year in the Goodreads Challenge. I made it in 2013 (with a book to spare!) I’m going to see if it was a fluke or if I can do it again. Mmmm books!

2. Write more posts in advance. This is a new one for me, but this whole “scrambling to put together a post the night before it goes live” thing has been wearing me out. As for how long it will last? Probably not very. But I’ll give it a shot anyway!

3. More vlogging. I had a lot of fun putting together the first two video blogs for the site, and my husband isn’t annoyed at helping me with them yet. In fact, he keeps coming up with ideas (mostly really random jokes that nobody gets) that he thinks I should incorporate.

4. Be more organized. This is a perennial resolution for me, but it’s become clear to me this year what a mess I’ve been. If a post of mine goes live in conjunction with the release date of a new book, it’s been pure luck thus far. Organization has never been my strong suit, so this will be a challenge for me!

5. I would really love to come up with some new features around here. I’ve been mulling some ideas for a while, but so far nothing has stuck.

6. Tackle the TBR stack. I know, I know, this is everyone’s resolution, but really. I have a big backlog I’d like to work through.

7. Participate! There are so many awesome challenges out there, I’m going to try to get involved in more of them.

8. TAME THE BEAST. Much as I loathe to admit this, the green-eyed-monster and I are well acquainted. I see other book bloggers coming up with brilliant ideas and/or having lots of success, and while I’m happy for them, there’s usually a little gnawing in my stomach going on. Why didn’t I think of that? Why am I not that cool? Will I ever match that brilliance? It’s not a productive use of my time. Be gone, monster!

What? 8 resolutions isn’t enough for you? Fine, then give me some of yours. No really… What are your resolutions?

I’ve never tried vlogging, I think I’m too much of a scaredy cat for it! And hey, if you come up with any cool features, I can’t wait to see them and join in! Good luck with all of your goals! 🙂

I’m not making any resolutions. I’m perfect. No, not really, but I feel like announcing goals to a large audience just makes it more embarrassing if you don’t achieve them. Like, say, if you make a whole blog declaring that you WILL finish a book and become published, and you can’t even manage the blog for more than a month or two. Spectacular fail.

Who could you be jealous of? Your blog is awesome and it is all because of you!

Maybe you just need a motivation buddy to get your book juices flowing. I’m completely worthless at writing fiction, but I volunteer my services as cheerleader! (And thank you dahling. You and my other kickass readers make it all worthwhile!)

  3. Liesel Hill

Great goals! I’m keeping my reading goal the same this year too, but it’s at half what yours is–50. I decided to try for 50 last year, and hit 75, but I actually think I’ll have less time to read this year, so I figured keeping it at 50 will be attainable. Even 75 was hard for me, though. I don’t know how you super-readers do it. I had someone on FB tell me she read 250 last year. Holy crap! As for not being cool, don’t worry about that at all. You’re one of the cooler ones I follow. I tend to read your blog and wish I could be cooler like you. 😀

I am in awe of how fast other people can read. I really pushed myself to hit 100 books, I can’t even imagine getting to 250! And you want to be cool like me? Oh Liesel. You beat me in coolness out of the womb, girl. Your name is LIESEL!

I love how everyone wants to take their tbr pile! I do too, I have over 700 books in it and it’s getting ridiculous but I have hope that I can one day read all those books! Thanks for sharing your resolutions <3

    1. Finish my LOST challenge. for PETE’S sake! April will be three years and I hope to start my last book then.

    2. Increase my blogging…

    3. Learn to make bread. Good, chewy, crusty bread.

    Happy New Year!

    • Words For Worms

The Lost challenge was a big challenge with some daunting books! And darnit, now I want some bread. My dad spent the first year of his retirement obsessed with making sourdough. That’s a good, chewy, crusty bread. Let me know if you want me to hook you up with the old man’s recipe :).

  6. Sarah @ Sarah Says Read

HAHA to #8. Because I’m always like “Mannn, why am I never as funny as Katie? I’m funny in real life, why can’t I be funny in writing?” LOL.

    • Words For Worms

That’s too funny because I’m always like “Sarah always finds the most perfect gifs and she’s hilarious and OMG Sarah Sarah Sarah.” You’re probably reeeeeally glad you live several states away right now!

Writing more posts in advance is something I’m looking to do more of as well. Sometimes I get so stressed trying to find time to write posts and comment on other people’s blogs… if I just scheduled things in advance more I know it would free up so much time and take the pressure off.

NUMBER #*. I just shouted that (just so you know). Because it’s so true. I’m trying to use my envious feelings for motivation. Like why can’t my vlogs be as good as Katie’s… 😉

Because really, I am very happy for everyone who is more successful than me. I just want to be successful too. Is that so bad?

    • Words For Worms

Hahahahaha I love that you shouted a number. Best thing ever. I totally get you! I love when my friends find success. I just happen to think there’s enough to go around, right? 🙂

  9. Jennine G.

Great resolutions! Totally with you on tackling the TBR pile. But green eyed monster!? Definitely put it to rest. You have an amazing blog! I only viewed from afar (not commenting) for awhile, totally intimidated. I understand there’s always something new or different a person can do, but what you have is pretty damn awesome too! Make sure you know that!

  10. Catherine

I’m just perverse enough that if I come up with resolutions my nature is to break them as quickly as possible. I like some of yours, though! I’m another day before writer-of-posts and it is a drag. Especially as I keep reading new books and I can’t remember as much about the one I’m ready to review. Not very efficient!

I’m thinking blog redesign/something for me as well. Nothing specific yet but here’s hoping we can achieve what we want!

  11. Wendy @ Wensend

Great resolutions and I do think they’re do-able. I also have to be more organized, but hey.. a messy mind is fun. Okay, sometimes. But I really should try to look at release dates more often..

  12. Andi (@estellasrevenge)

That’s good stuff! I have become much more fond of pre-scheduling posts. Just because I can write at my leisure and not try to rush. I usually have a week or more scheduled out at a time and it makes blogging much more relaxed.

  13. Melinda

Number 2 is something I’ve done recently. I wrote a bunch of reviews and scheduled it for while I was on vacation. I think it’s something I’m going to be doing more regularly! Love your resolutions!
