I've Got a Crush on You! And you, and you, and you, too!

Hey There Bookworms,

Before I get into today’s Top Ten Tuesday list, I want to take a moment to give a shout-out to the Hubs. That’s right, today Jim turns 31. Happy Birthday! The thing that makes this birthday extra super special is that it is ALSO the anniversary of our first date. The TENTH anniversary. (For a first date that took place on a 21st birthday, it was shockingly wholesome.) Yay, Jim! Happy Birth-iversary! I totally still have a crush on you.

First photo of us as a couple, a mere 10 days after that first date. Which reminds me... Happy Almost Anniversary to Meresa and Scott! (Yeah. He went to a wedding with me after a week and a half. Keeper.)

First photo of us as a couple, a mere 10 days after that first date. Which reminds me… Happy Almost Anniversary to Meresa and Scott! (Yeah. He went to a wedding with me after a week and a half of dating. Keeper.)

You know what the best part about a stable relationship is? Jim’s not even a tiny bit threatened by the fact that I’ve got crushes on other boys. Sure, it helps that all the boys are fictional characters… Like any bookworm, I have an active imagination. Since The Broke and The Bookish asked so nicely, today I shall list my Top Ten Fictional Character Crushes.

TTT3W

1. Fred and/or George Weasley. So, here’s the thing. I hate to admit to this, but, I didn’t read Harry Potter until after the first movie came out. This means, among other things, that my mental images of characters were tainted going into the series. I LOVE the Weasley twins, and the movie twins are pretty cute. I know they’re shorter and rounder in the books, but they’re so funny and awesome. Laughter is a big deal to me, and I’m pretty sure a Weasley twin would keep me in stitches. (Maybe not as well as Jim, though. His sense of humor is incredibly absurd and he frequently makes me laugh until my tummy hurts.)

2. Jamie Fraser. I know, I know. I rave about Outlander constantly, but SWOON, Jamie! He’s strong and smart and he speaks lots of languages and he looks hot in a kilt. Plus, he’s so head over heels for Claire, it’s redonk. I mean, really.

3. Jon Snow. The new season of Game of Thrones started up the other night. I watched season 1, but for whatever reason I fell off the wagon after that. I’m considering jumping back on. I mean, I’ve read all the books, you know? And. JON SNOW. Ned Stark’s bastard child is one hot piece of ice, if you know what I’m saying. Really though. I love book Jon. I love TV Jon. Long live Jon Snow!

4. Mr. Darcy. Oh yeah, I just pulled out the old Pride and Prejudice card. How could I not? I mean, he’s MR. DARCY. Proud. Prejudiced. Secretly in love with the feisty Elizabeth Bennett. Be still my heart!

5. Gus. You remember, the dreamboat cancer patient from The Fault In Our StarsSure, he didn’t speak the way any REAL teenager would. He was far too smart and witty and self assured. But. That’s what Tiger Beat dreams are made of.

6. Charlie. Yep. My teenage self had a big old crush on Charlie from The Perks of Being a WallflowerI loved his brilliant socially stunted antics. And his wounded puppy psyche. Sigh.

7. Marius Pontmercy. I think every girl on the planet imagines that she’s Eponine when they listen to “On My Own.” Who among us has never tasted the bitter pill of unrequited love?! Les Miserables the book gives Marius a much juicier backstory than the musical. It certainly doesn’t hurt Marius’s swoonworthiness that Eddie Redmayne played the part in the movie…

Oh, Eddie. You only love me when I'm gutshot and bleeding out in the gutters of Paris... Source

8. Stu Redman. Why yes, I DO have a thing for the no-nonsense leader of the “good-guy” pack from The Stand. He is immune to the super flu, plus he’s got a cowboy vibe. I don’t know, maybe I was swayed by the fact that Lieutenant Dan played him in the mini series. The heart wants what the heart wants!

9. Roger MacKenzie. Yeah. He’s from Outlander too. Roger is one dishy time traveler. Green eyed, Scottish accented, folk song crooning, tall drink of water. Mmmmhmmm.

10. Jim. Yes, I am cheating and making my husband into a fictional character. Public display of affection, blog style. Oh. Fictional Jim may or may not also be Batman. Or just own tasteful Batman statues. XOXO.

Bookworms, tell me. Who are your bookish fictional character crushes? We’re equal opportunity here. Dudes, ladies, whatever floats your boat. Share the lurve!

What a fantastic list! I especially love Jon Snow — book or show, he’s hot either way. 🙂 Happy anniversary & hope your hubs is having a great birthday as well!

  2. Leah

I love everyone on your list… from the books I’ve read, anyway. I totally had a crush on Fred and George when I was younger, and although I haven’t read Game of Thrones (just seen the first season of the show), I concur that he is one hot piece of ice!

  3. therelentlessreader

Look at you two!! Awww, all the love and adorableness! Happy birthday to your hunky hubby!

If I had to pick just one fictional dude to love it would probably be Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockinbird. Swoon!

    • Words for Worms

See, I read To Kill A Mockingbird in high school, when I was significantly closer in age to Scout than her dad. Atticus just sounded like an old dude to me. I should probably re-read it. (I’m going to tell Jim you called him “hunky.” Not like his ego NEEDS inflation, but it IS his birthday LOL)

  4. Rory

The actor who plays Jon Snow, so handsome! I seriously considered picking Stu, but I chose Ben from IT instead. I thought Jamie Fraser might be on your list, I wonder when they’ll make a series of that book? I keep hearing rumors, but lets face it, no real man can best fictional Jamie.

    Happy Birthday to you husband!

  5. Alyssa

    So…let’s be friends…here is why:

FRED AND GEORGE!! I NEEEED to have laughter in my life and they are the best! Plus, GINGERS FTW.

I didn’t love Outlander…I kind of hated Claire tbh but OH JAMIE!! He (and their romance) is really the main reason I made it out of that series alive.

Jon Snow, I can’t even. THE BROODS!!

Mr. Darcy – How can you not love him? ESPECIALLY after watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, that show definitely renewed my love for this guy.

Marius – Admittedly, I never read the book OR saw the play but I did know the entire soundtrack because my aunt is obsessed. We saw the movie when it came out and OMG it was amazing and also MARIUS is so delish! I might have to look up his “juicy” back story that you speak of!

    Oh, this list. So good.

  6. Alley

I’m pretty sure Mr. Darcy is going to make it on most people’s lists. cos really, how could he not?

Jon Snow from the books (or at least the first one) I was sorta of OK on but the actor they have playing Snow (and the fact that they aged him up a bit), why hello there!

    • Words for Worms

Yes, they aged all the Stark children up! That was my first comment when I watched the pilot! I was like, “they’re too old! This is wrong!” But then I realized they had to make them older because it’s TV and there are boobs and stuff and it’s really creepy otherwise…

  7. Sarah Says Read

Yay happy bday to your honeyman!

I want to hug so many of those fictional boys on your list. Weasley twins are awesome! And obviously Jamie is the best Outlander man, but instead of Roger for a secondary pick I’d have to go with Young Ian. He’s so much cooler!

  8. Sami

Jamie, Jon, Mr. Darcy, Marius….all swoon worthy! I would add Jacob from Twilight…he’s all hot and werewolfy. Matthew Clairmont from Deborah Harness’ All Souls books is a favorite of mine as well!

      • Sami

My husband was out of town recently and I started watching the first season of Friday Night Lights the tv show (Oh Tim Riggins!!) and have never felt like a dirty old woman more in my life…and I’m 37. I’m pretty sure that there weren’t any guys at my high school that looked like that but if there were I may have paid more attention. I never thought I would be at an age where the hotties could possibly be my children…

      • Ashley H.

I always say I’m team Tayward. Definitely Team Edward in the books, but all about some Taylor Lautner in the books.

Oh, and I think all of the Weasley men (including Arthur and Percy) would make it on my list. I guess I have a thing for redheads? Don’t tell my husband!

Westley – As much as I love the movie, I think I actually love the book more.

Howard Roark – That “rape” scene ticked me off so much! I know they tried to justify it by saying that’s what she wanted, but I had to stop reading because I was so angry that he would possibly do that or that Rand would have him do that. It still ticks me off. I even wrote a blog post about it. So upset.

As far as GoT goes, I read the books first, so Ned Stark was the Stark I was most interested in. So honorable! Which makes it funny that Ned is tied with Jamie Lannister. I know he’s the kingslayer, but he’s just so interesting. Technically, I kind of love Tyrion too.

And who hasn’t loved Mr. Darcy?

I haven’t kept count, but these are definitely in no order whatsoever. And I think I screwed myself by starting with seven. I actually realized while making this list that I’m much more likely to develop a crush on a writer while reading a good character than on the character (Chaucer and Steinbeck come to mind.)

      • Ashley H.

Taylor’s in the movies. Duh. That’s what I get for trying to do this on my phone instead of getting up and going to the computer. :/

  9. Samantha

I agree with Stu Redman, although I like him better in the book than in the miniseries. He was well-cast in the miniseries though, don’t get me wrong. 😛

I also loved Henry Tilney in Northanger Abbey. Probably 60% of the reason I loved that book in the first place. 😛

      • Samantha

I actually read it for the first time for college English. I wasn’t a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice and was like meh…Jane Austen. But after that book, now I kind of want to read more. 🙂 It’s basically making fun of gothic romance. 😀

  10. Milo

Yukiko from J. Kristof’s Lotus War Series.

Who wouldn’t be attracted to a girl with a mental bond to a griffin living in a dystopian Japanese themed steampunk empire and fighting against oppression, addiction and the seemingly unstopable desecration of the natural world?

Seriously, who? Nobody? That’s what I thought.

  11. creativelynamed

Happy Birthday Mr. Words for Worms! I hope it’s a special day! Oh Mr. Darcy, hands down, game over, and a, “Yes, Please!” Fortunately, we both have understanding hubbies!

  12. Megan M.

This is a GREAT list. I’m surprised though that Jamie Fraser wasn’t in the top spot. I value humor over a lot of things, too, but come on! Jamie is SO. HOT.

    • Words for Worms

I had to stop myself from putting Jamie at #1. It’s not really in order of hotness anyway, but I was like, I put Outlander at #1 last week, I can’t keep doing this without sounding INSANE. But who cares? Anybody who reads this blog already KNOWS I’m nuts!

  13. JoulesDellinger

Ok, if I’m going teen fiction I’m a Harry Potter girl (what…? scars are totally sexy!) and am totally team Gale (because the actor is HOT in the movie). For other fictional boyfriends, I LOVE Josh from the US version of Being Human and Wade from Hart of Dixie. And Sawyer from Lost. Still. There was a scene where he was coming out of the ocean in nothing but wet jeans and it’s still burned in my head…

  14. kathyreadsthis

Gus is on my list, too. And I loved the Weasly boys. 🙂

    Happy birthday to your husband.

  15. annesquared

Oh, how I would love to say “You know nothing, Jon Snow.” and then… 😉 (The movie has taken so much away from that line, imo.) And yes, Jamie Frasier and the grown, but young Ian. I’m sure there is a character or two I am missing, I’m so bad about titles and names. Wait – who was the main character in Beach Music…?

  16. Lyssapants

So we’re practically twins separated at birth? Did you steal my life? Brian’s bday is Friday and this year is our 10th anniversary. AND I didn’t read HP until after the first movie. And Ron is the future father of my unborn red headed army that will one day, on my command, take over the world.
Love Darcy and Marius! And I am obsessed with GOT, but Jon Snow is a bit too wimpy at first. You don’t crush on little Geoffry??

  17. Heather

How was I not following your blog before? I don’t know…but I am now, and that’s all that matters!

This is a great list. Jon Snow is definitely a hottie, but I think my biggest crush of The Stand was Tom Cullen. M-O-O-N, and that spells I’ve got a crush on Tom!

  18. Darlene

The Japanese man from The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I don’t remember his name but he was so wonderful and in total pursuit of this woman’s brain! For real! I loved him! And I can never stray from a conversation about LOST. I loved Sawyer just like anyone else but my crush was truly with Jack. I know…I just have a thing for the good guy, And I LOVED seeing him cry. Sigh…..

  19. Dreamer of Dreams

That’s funny! I LOVE Fred and George Weasley too! They are my favorite Harry Potter characters, and I was heartbroken when she did away with Fred in Book 7.
I haven’t seen the others. I must be a nube.

    • Words for Worms

I hate to admit this, but I’ve only read the first two Annes… Of course Gilbert is there, and the crushing is beginning, but its not full blown yet. I have to prioritize these things!

  20. heathesaurus

Congrats on the bloggie! I am thrilled to have discovered you and your written wonders.

First, this list is fabulous, and I am beyond happy that Fred/George made it to the top of the list (although I have to ask – has anyone ever noticed that Fred is way hotter than George? He gets all the best lines. I have long been convinced that JK did this deliberately, just to *spolier alert* make me cry more at the end. Seriously, go back and read and you’ll see what I mean.)

My contribution: Mr Thornton from North & South. He crushes the air from my windpipes.

    • Words for Worms

North & South is on my TBR list, I need to prioritize it in a big way. I never noticed that Fred got the better zingers, but my heart was broken into tiny pieces at the end!

  21. Nish

haha, I love this topic. There are quite a few fictional crushes that I have esp from Game of Thrones LOL but Jon Snow is def not one of them. I had a crush on Robb Stark and was totally crushed by the Red Wedding 🙁

  22. Rachel Hamilton

I adore Jamie. But I can not lie…I am kind of horrified at life without deodorant, so I don’t believe he would smell good…small hang up.
My other book crushes come from the Stephanie Plum novels – the dark, moody and muscular Ranger and the sexy Joe Morelli. Mmmmm…
